Hennepin Canal: Report of the Chief of Engineers, 1872-1923.

Photocopies of annual reports relating to the Hennepin Canal. The Hennepin Canal, sometimes called the Illinois and Mississippi Canal, connected the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers through a 75-mile series of 33 locks between Rock Island and Hennepin, Illinois. Built between 1890 and 1907, the canal closed in 1951. The materials, compiled from annual reports of the chief of engineers of the U.S. Army, document the planning, construction, and operation of the canal by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A typed index is provided at the beginning of the first volume.
